VCenter 5.1 to 5.5 U1 Custom Upgrade with SRM and Linked Mode (Part 1 SSO)

First step of the 5.5 upgrade is to do the Primary site SSO server.  Below are the steps needed, I did not run into any issues on this upgrade.  5.5 will automatically replicate the data for SSO so you don’t need to worry about exporting and importing the database like in 5.1

1. Login to the VI client of the ESXi host that your Vcenter resides on and mount the install ISO to your SSO server.

2.  Kick off the SSO installer under custom upgrade:

Vcenter_1

3. The screen should recognize an earlier version of Single Sign on, click next.

SSO_1

4.  Accept EULA, next.SSO_2

5.  Make sure the pre-req check works.

SSO_3

6. It will detect previous version and let you know items will be migrated.

SSO_4

7.  Select First existing option as this is the primary.  When you do secondary site choose the 3rd option to upgrade additional and replicate. The second option is only used if you are planning on having 2 HA behind a load balancer.  SSO_5

8.  Enter the Vsphere.local admin password that you setup when you first installed SSOSSO_6

9.  Enter your site name.SSO_7

10.  Choose Install Directory.SSO_8

11.  Verify your options and make sure everything is as expected.SSO_9

12.  Begin the installSSO_10

13.  Next step, Web Client!
